None other than Pastoe produced the beautiful piece of furniture for Dutch designer Cees Braakman in the late 1950s.
This sideboard is made of teak and has a black lacquered metal frame and is in exceptionally beautiful condition.
In 1948 Cees Braakman (1917-1995) followed in his father's footsteps as a manager and designer. During a study trip through the United States, he became acquainted with the pioneering bent plywood furniture by Charles & Ray Eames. You can clearly see this in the beautiful detail inside the drawers.
The teak version was awarded a silver medal at the 11th Triennial in Milan in 1957. The same year also follows the crowning with Le Signe d'Or in Belgium.
Braakman remained head of the UMS PasToe design department until 1978 and is without doubt one of the Netherlands' most influential designers.
