Emiel Veranneman (1924-2004) was without a doubt one of Belgium's leading designers.
Veranneman was a cousin of Constant Permeke and was an interior designer, designer and art collector. In 1974 he opened the Veranneman Foundation, an important center for visual arts where he showed his own work together with that of Picasso, Christo, Permeke and others.
He was a frequent visitor to top industrialists, ministers and even the royal family and designed many of the most luxurious interiors of that time in Belgium.
The Osaka chair (1968) is one of Veranneman's most famous and timeless designs, it was produced in very small quantities by De Coene for the interiors he designed. The famous painter Roger Raveel, among others, had a set of Osaka chairs in his living space.
The chair was used to furnish the Belgian pavilion at the 1970 Osaka World Exhibition and was also exhibited in 1979 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels during the retrospective of Veranneman's work.
Both the chairs and the table are made of solid oak, the 8 chairs are covered with beautiful ivory-colored leather. The table is a unique piece. It is very rare to find such a large set in this condition, so this is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a truly museum-like set by this top designer.
