By the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Louis Vuitton had established itself as the industry leader in making suitcases and needed to differentiate its now famous brand from its imitators and competitors.
They decided to come up with a logo, a monogram, which was indeed the famous and very recognizable print we know today. The very first series was only made about six years ago and the print was woven into the canvas.
This example dates from around 1896 and is a perfect example of such cases . With its steel cladding, brass studs and lock, it still shows the same elegance as it did over 100 years ago and is a testament to the durability of the best trunk maker in the world. Today it forms a beautiful piece of interior object, both decorative and useful.
