Lounge chair P40 was designed in 1955. Borsani worked on the idea of a mechanism to give an armchair the freedom to adjust different positions, especially for relaxation.
This P40 is an early edition and has beautiful copper fittings. It is in exceptionally beautiful vintage condition. In this version it is sought after by international and national interior designers and decorators.
With the P40, Borsani sought a technical way to expand the potential of the classic chaise longues designed by some of the most famous architects of the modernist movement. Overcoming the static nature of the fixed and bulky 'comfy seat', the P40 offered a reduced size alternative, capable of opening like a fan through a range of settings from any position between fully reclined and fully closed.
Borsani's P40 is a relax chair made of mobile elements. The chair is equipped with a height-adjustable headrest. A retractable element under the seat pivots outward to provide extended leg support and has a retractable metal footrest. The flexible armrests are made of steel and rubber. The seat and backrest can be adjusted independently of each other in different positions, so that the chair can be used for both relaxation and active use.
