Alessandro Mendini was born in Milan and studied architecture. He worked for the magazines Casabella and Modo and was editor-in-chief of the leading magazine Domus from 1980 to 1985.
Together with Philippe Starck he designed the Groninger Museum. With his imaginative designs, Mendini wants to help people turn their living room into their own world, detached from the violence of the real world. He therefore calls his designs 'objects for spiritual use'.
