Beautiful first edition of the "1853" lamp by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte from 1954.
Max Ingrand (1908-1969) was a French artist and decorator. He started his career as a glass artist and contributed, among other things, to the restoration of the stained glass windows of Notre Dame in Paris after World War II.
He was also active as a designer and interior designer. Ingrand is one of the most important light artists ever and designed numerous museum-worthy lamps. He was artistic director of the Italian luxury lighting brand Fontana Arte from 1954 to 1967, the "1853" lamp is one of the first and best-known results of this collaboration.
This iconic lamp is a first edition, which can be seen from the smaller holes in the base and the switch, which is still completely original. It is available in three sizes, this one is the largest model.
There are three separate switches for the lamps in the base, the shade and the top. The satin-finished glass emits a beautiful glow and the light can be adjusted to any circumstance.
