Since its creation by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, the company has launched more than 1,100 fragrances. Guerlain made his name with his Eau de Cologne Impériale (1853), which he created for the wedding of Empress Eugénie and Napoleon III.
Mitsouko (1919) was Charlie Chaplin's favorite perfume, and Shalimar from 1925 that of Rita Hayworth. Shalimar , inspired by the (love) story of moguls Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, is a classic perfume that is still being produced. Brigitte Bardot and Bianca Jagger, among others, wore it. Shalimar is the name of gardens that the moguls had built.
Guerlain became part of the LVMH group in 1994. In 2017, Guerlain opened its first perfume boutique outside France, on Avenue Louise in Brussels.
