Designed by visionary Italian architect and industrial designer Cini Boeri, the Gradual sofa system is a groundbreaking sofa system first introduced in 1970. This particular example, dating from early 1973, bears the original Gavina/Kiga labels.
After the takeover of the influential Italian design firm Gavina SpA by Knoll in 1968, Boeri was commissioned to develop an innovative and modular sofa system. With the Gradual Lounge she succeeded in introducing a unique way of manufacturing a sofa from fibreglass.
A striking feature of the Gradual Lounge is the rectangular opening at the back. This clever addition provides space for storing personal belongings, books or decorative items.
Although the Gradual Lounge was praised for its innovative design, its production was limited to just a few years. The reason for this was the complex production method and the use of high-quality materials such as fiberglass, which made the sofa relatively expensive.
Cini Boeri, who died in 2020 at the age of 96, left a lasting impression on the world of design.
This Gradual Lounge is in excellent condition and has recently been reupholstered. Ready to serve not only as a functional piece of furniture, but also as a powerful design statement in your interior.
