WOW! Finally we have the Mies lounge chair, the first time in 10 years!
The Mies Lounge Chair is constructed from chrome-plated steel profiles, which reflect the industrial rigor of modernist design principles.
This is a first generation in completely original vintage condition!
Despite the rigid and static appearance of the design, the tensioned rubber sheet, which is fixed between the crossbars, offers an unexpectedly resilient seating comfort. In contrast, the headrest is made of luxurious pony hair, which adds a contrasting softness. The matching footstool with the same steel construction and pony finish, is further accentuated by a subtly integrated lighting system. This duality between rigidity and resilience gives the chair its unique character. Although the Mies Lounge Chair is difficult to place within a specific style at first glance, on closer inspection it reveals a deeper connection with classic modernism.
The name of the Mies Lounge Chair underlines the clear similarity of the construction with the architectural projects of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. It is a tribute to the great master, who died that same year, the square chromed steel profiles refer to his iconic furniture designs, in which he deliberately opted for flat steel instead of the more common tubular steel, in order to achieve a sleeker aesthetic.
This chair is more than just a rare piece of furniture, it is an embodiment of Archizoom Associati's design philosophy.
