On May 10, 1940, the Germans invaded the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France.
Hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers tried to resist, but had to eventually retreat to the coast. Arriving in the Dunkirk area, they were completely surrounded by the enemy armies. The only way out was the high seas. In a short time, 338,000 British, French and Belgian soldiers were successfully evacuated from the "Hell of DUNKERQUE". (Operation Dynamo)
The bright green artwork shows a detail of the 338,000 evacuated soldiers. A fragment of about 4800 soldiers. 1/70 of the actual number of soldiers.
Richart reflects the absurdity of warfare or violence in his works. And this in a very artistic way.
